An Expert from Chongqing Survey Institute Was Invited to Give Lectures for 18th Grade Students in Our College

On the morning of 6th November 2019, as the vice president of Chongqing Survey Institute, Zejun Xiang was invited to come to the Civil Engineering College of our school. In the classroom of D1412 in Huxi Campus, he brought the academic report which called “Introduction to Surveying and Mapping” to the 2018 surveying and mapping students in our school.

First, Vice President Zejun Xiang introduced the theme of surveying and mapping through a network story. He emphasized the importance of surveying and mapping work through a tunnel project case, explained to students that sampling is a "Ancient and modern science" through the example of real estate boundary measurement and feature measurement content and explained to the students that "Surveying is a very rigorous subject" through an example of first-class level measurement. He also explained to the students that “Surveying is an ordinary and extensive profession” through the example of one in every 1,000 people working in the surveying and mapping department in Germany. Through the introduction of surveying and mapping celebrities and surveying and mapping academicians, students can learn about mapping. Finally, combining with his 32 years of experience in the surveying and mapping industry in Chongqing, he has carried out the basic concepts and research contents of surveying and mapping, the development history of surveying and mapping, the discipline classification of surveying and mapping, the modern development of surveying and mapping, the scientific status and role of surveying and mapping.

After graduating from Wuhan University of Surveying and Mapping in 1987, Vice President Zejun Xiang resolutely returned to Chongqing and demanded himself as a craftsman. He contributed his whole youth and made outstanding contributions to the development of hometown construction and mapping technology. He also promoted in this struggle. He was promoted and was rated as a professor of engineering, a State Council Special Allowance Specialist, a master of Chongqing survey and design, and a young and middle expert with outstanding contributions in Chongqing. He has served successively as Dean of Chongqing Three Gorges Hydropower Building Survey and Design Institute, Chairman and General Manager of Chongqing Wanzhou Hydropower Construction Engineering Co., Ltd., Vice Chairman of Chongqing Jianghe Engineering Supervision Co., Ltd. and General Manager of Chongqing Digital City Technology Co., Ltd. He has presided over more than 20 provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects, won more than 100 national and provincial awards, and 25 national authorized patents. He participated in the publication of the monograph "Chongqing Historical Atlas" and "Mountain City Geotechnical Engineering Comprehensive Survey Technology". As the main person who wrote the first draft, he participated in the Ministry of the People's Republic of China formulation and revision of more than 10 standards, including national, industry, and local standards. He published 11 articles in the journal, and conquered a number of bottleneck technical problems and key technical problems under the actual conditions of “complex terrain in the southwest, complex and diverse urban and rural features, geospatial data acquisition and data processing difficulties”,

He has achieved fruitful results in data acquisition, data processing and application of results. Among them, “3D+ holographic spatial data construction and application demonstration" and "independent research and development of three-dimensional digital city platform software" have reached international advanced level.

The academic report was profound and vivid, and the president did not only make the students have a preliminary understanding of the surveying and mapping profession, but also had a new understanding of the dynamics and development of surveying and mapping. This lecture broadened the students' horizons, expanded the students' thought, increased the students' interest in learning and had benefited everyone.
