Academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Prof. M. Hesham El Naggar Was Invited to SCE and Presented a Special Presentation

Prof. M. Hesham El Naggar, the research director at Geotechnical Research Center of the University of Western Ontario, invited School of Civil Engineering and presented a special presentation entitled with “Pile Dynamics: Analysis, Design and Testing” on 17 April, 2019. This is the first time that Prof. Naggar was invited to Chongqing University to present his lecture.

At the beginning, SCE Prof. Xuanming Ding introduced Prof. Naggar to all the attended experts and students, and expressed warmly welcome and heartfelt gratitude for his arrival. Later Prof. Naggar expressed his willingness for acceptance of this invitation. Afterwards, Prof. Naggar gave his talk about pile dynamics. His presentation was in several parts: pile foundation in engineering applications, pile-soil interaction, single pile, pile groups, group stiffness using static interaction coefficients, dynamic pile-soil-pile interaction, evaluation of group effects using dynamic interaction coefficients, dynamic interaction effects, pile behavior subjected to large displacement, analytical method for extended pile-shafts, dynamic in pile testing, theoretical analysis-nonlinear approach, assessment of effect of soil disturbance on dynamic pile behavior, recent advances in pile integrity testing: parallel seismic method. After the wonderful lecture, some attended experts and students had a deep discussion with Prof. Naggar. Finally, Prof. Xuanming Ding gave a summary and expressed their gratitude again for Prof. Naggar’s visit and his interesting speech.

The academic lecture not only gave the audiences a deep introduction on the pile dynamics, but also made them have a better understanding about the difference between static piles and dynamic piles. The talk opened audiences’ mind, broadened their eyesight, and gave them a deeper understanding of soil dynamics.
