The Institute of Structural Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University has a staff of 50 people, including 1 Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 15 professors and 21 associate professors. The research areas of the institute cover structural steel and hybrid composite structures, performance and design of concrete structures, pre-stressed structures, wood and bamboo structures, structural inspection and reinforcement. The institute is committed to long-term research work in the field of structural engineering and has so far completed over 100 research projects sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation and the national ministries in China. Through theoretical and experimental research-based study, the institute focuses on transformation and application of research results in national and local engineering construction. In recent years, the institute has published more than 500 domestic and foreign journal papers, obtained 3 national awards, 32 provincial awards, 35 national invention patents, and edited 21 national standards, 15 industry standards. The Institute has made important contributions in all levels such as harnessing professionals for the constructions and economic development for the whole country and Chongqing as well.
