In order to broaden students ' international vision and enhance their ability of transnational communication and cooperation, the SCE of Chongqing University launched the 2025 Singapore Winter Camp.
On 10th February, the team of member staffs and students of our school went to the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering ( CEE ) of Nanyang Technological University ( NTU ) to attend academic seminar, study the course and visit the laboratories.

Professor Shi Chao of NTU CEE first introduces the basic information of Nanyang Technological University and the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, explains the joint training program of the two schools, and gives valuable suggestions on the research direction and future career development opportunities to the students.

Professor Shi Chao brought lectures to students on four topics: classical soil mechanics, unsaturated soil mechanics, foundation improvement and excavation support system to the students. In the lecture, Shi Chao took the stress space in classical soil mechanics as an example, combined with important parameters such as strength, stiffness and permeability coefficient, vividly explained the influence of these parameters on the soil engineering properties, and gradually explored unsaturated soil mechanics through the introduction of the effective stress principle. Taking the comparison of effective stress principles between dry soil, unsaturated soil, and saturated soil as an example, Shi Chao analyzed in detail the role of matric suction in unsaturated soil mechanics, deepening students' understanding of soil mechanics behavior and its engineering applications.

When explaining foundation treatment and excavation support system, Shi Chao showed the common methods of construction site foundation treatment to the students, combined with the optimal moisture content curve of soil, demonstrating the importance of moisture content in foundation treatment. When introducing excavation support, Shi Chao focused on the failure mode of excavation system and the construction of support structure, and combined with actual engineering cases in Singapore to demonstrate the importance of excavation engineering, helping the students to more intuitively see the application of excavation support in geotechnical engineering.

After that, the team of member staffs and students visited The Gallery Lab and M-Lab under the guidance of the experimenters. In the Gallery Laboratory, member staffs and students observe the experimental models or achievements such as “Inductive Charging Road Technology ', ' traffic simulation based on virtual reality technology, "Virtual Reality based Traffic Simulation", "Heat Reflective Thermal Insulation Coating", and "Water Jump Phenomenon", and deeply appreciate the integration and practical application of cutting-edge technologies such as civil engineering and artificial intelligence. The M-Lab laboratory provides strong facilities support for the field of environmental engineering research. The laboratory exhibits bio low-carbon cement, sea sand concrete, coral aggregate concrete, etc., leaving a deep impression on member staffs and students, inspiring them to deeply consider the relationship between civil engineering and sustainable development goals.

Subsequently, the member staffs and students of the two schools engaged in in-depth academic exchanges. Two doctoral students from Nanyang Technological University and five doctoral and postgraduate students from our university made academic reports on the topics of " "Theoretical Research on Dynamic Characteristics Identification of Three dimensional Bridges Based on Vehicle Scanning Method" and "Research on Unsteady Aerodynamic Effects and Aeroelastic Response Analysis Model of Wind Turbine Blades". They delved into cutting-edge industry topics from basic theoretical research to artificial intelligence applications.

This Winter Camp has laid a solid foundation for further deepening exchanges and cooperation between the two universities, promoting academic research, and fostering talent cultivation. The SCE at Chongqing University will continue to promote international cooperation and exchanges, helping students showcase their talents on a broader stage.
