On April 23, 2025, at the invitation of Professor Zhang Wengang and Associate Professor Yang Ronghua from the School of Civil Engineering at Chongqing University, Professor Fan Hongchao from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Norwegian University of Science and Technology visited our college and gave an academic lecture titled “Automated generation of 3D building models at multiple-LoD from ALS point clouds”. The lecture was chaired by Professor Zhang Wengang, Vice Dean of the School of Civil Engineering  at Chongqing University.

In his presentation, Professor Fan Hongchao provided a detailed explanation of the definitions and distinctions of 3D building models from LoD1 to LoD5. He introduced two representative research achievements by his team: “Object Extraction Based on Convolutional Neural Networks” and “Automatic Generation of 3D Architectural Models”, covering both theoretical foundations and practical applications. Additionally, he shared his team’s recent research progress in building roof extraction and 3D reconstruction, as well as the development of an interactive modeling platform and related research outcomes.
