Under the guidance of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology and Chongqing Society of Civil and Architecture, organized by Chongqing Society of Civil and Architecture Geotechnical Engineering Branch and China Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering Environmental Geotechnical Engineering Branch, the "2019 Academic Annual Meeting of Geotechnical Engineering Branch of Chongqing Society of Civil and Architecture" hosted by Chongqing University's School of Civil Engineering, General Research Institute of Architecture & Planning Design Co., Ltd., Chongqing University, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Environmental Geological Disaster Prevention in Reservoir Area, and the Key Laboratory of new technology for construction of cities in mountain area was grandly  held in Chongqing University on November 23, 2019.

The theme of the meeting is "New Progress in Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering in Mountain Areas". The purpose of the meeting is to promote scientific research and academic exchanges in the field of geotechnical mechanics and engineering in mountain areas of Chongqing, to provide a platform for discussion of new theories, new technologies, new concepts, new methods and new equipment, and to promote the innovative development of civil engineering.

The leaders and guests attended the meeting were: Zheng Yingren, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Professor Liu Hanlong, Vice President of Chongqing University; Professor Zhang Wengang, Vice President of School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing University; Professor Lu Xin, President of Geotechnical Engineering Branch; Xue Shangling, Vice President; Tang Gengchen; Ding Xuanming; He Ping; Chen Xichang; Ye Siqiao; and Li Xuesong, Secretary of the superior society. In addition, more than 70 experts and scholars from 40 units attended the meeting.

The opening ceremony of the meeting was hosted by Vice President Tang Gengchen. First, Professor Liu Hanlong, vice president of Chongqing University, delivered a speech for the organizer. President Liu expressed warm welcome and thanks to all the representatives attending the meeting and introduced the development process and major academic achievements of Chongqing University in recent years. Later, professor Lu Xin, president of the geotechnical branch of Chongqing civil and architectural society, delivered a speech. He expressed his gratitude to all colleagues in the geotechnical community of Chongqing for their support to the geotechnical branch all the time. He also expressed his gratitude to the School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing University for its support in preparing for the conference. Academician Zheng Yingren, as the first president of the geotechnical branch and for his support to the work of the geotechnical branches, he also expressed his affirmation to the work of the secretariat of the society. Finally, he said that colleagues in the geotechnical community of Chongqing should fully rely on the platform of the society. We should further strengthen communication and study from each other, and take the "16th National Foundation Treatment Conference" in 2020 as an opportunity to show the country the characteristics of geotechnical engineering problems in Chongqing mountainous cities and the elegant character of geotechnical engineers in Chongqing

After the opening ceremony, president Lu Xin made an academic report entitled "Dynamic Compaction Replacement Method+Dynamic Compaction Method for Foundation Treatment in Mountainous Areas". He proposed a new concept of "Dynamic Compaction Replacement Method+Dynamic Compaction Method" for foundation treatment in mountainous areas based on the characteristics and engineering practice. He Ping, vice chairman, made an academic report entitled "Discussion on Geotechnical Engineering Informatization". He analyzed the necessity of geotechnical engineering informatization, introduced the current situation of geotechnical engineering informatization in major cities in China and Chongqing, pointed out the future and development direction of geotechnical engineering informatization, and encouraged geotechnical experts in Chongqing to seize opportunities, solve the problems and create a better future for geotechnical engineering. Ding xuanming, vice chairman, made an academic report entitled "research on pile-soil coupling vibration characteristics of rail transport in mountain areas under complex conditions". from model tests, numerical simulations and field tests, he shared the latest results of his research. Vice President Ye Siqiao gave an academic report entitled "Problems and Suggestions on the Prevention and Control of Collapse and Rockfall Disasters". Combining with a large number of scientific research results, he put forward design suggestions on the prevention and control of collapse and rockfall disasters from the perspective of engineering application.

In addition, the vice chairman He Ping, Professor Chen Xiaoping, Professor Wang Qihong and assistant professor Fang Lin also gave academic reports. At the end of the report, Associate Professor Zhou Hang from Chongqing University introduced the preparations for the 16th National Academic Conference on Foundation Treatment.

After the academic reports, the attendees visited the Geotechnical Engineering Experimental Center of Chongqing University. From that point on words, the 2019 Academic Annual Meeting of Geotechnical Engineering Branch of Chongqing Society of Civil and Architecture were successfully concluded.
