Academician Xuhong ZHOU Won the 2020 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize

At the annual award ceremony held in Beijing on November 3, 2020, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation awarded the Prize for Science and Technology Progress to academician Xuhong ZHOU.

Prof. Xuhong ZHOU is the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, foreign academician of Japan Academy of Engineering, and the fellow of the Royal Institution of Structural Engineers. He has dedicated himself to teaching, scientific research and talents cultivation in the field of Civil Engineering. He has made outstanding contributions in structural system development, theoretical research and engineering application of steel structures and steel-concrete mixed structures. His scientific research findings are widely applied in high-rise and large-span building, bridges, marine structures, underground structures such as foundation of the third tallest building in the world - Ping An Financial Centre in Shenzhen, and have been commonly adopted in more than 10 national and industrial technical standards and compiled into relevant technical standards, which have achieved remarkable technical, socioeconomic benefits, and promoted the scientific and technological progress of civil engineering industry.

Prof ZHOU has innovatively developed the cold-formed thin-walled steel structure system, promoted its development from low-rise to multi-story, and developed the first multi-story cold-formed steel residence in China. He also developed the steel-concrete hybrid structure systems, and promoted the development of super high-rise buildings. His work also includes: development of China’s first staggered truss framing building, proposal of the steel-concrete composite anchorage system with an anchor plate for cable-stayed bridges, establishment of the relevant theory and method, as well as the basis for the design of the complex and critical parts.

He has successively won the first-prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, three items of the second-prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Awards, etc..

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation (HLHL) was founded in 1994 by enterprisers Ho Sin Hang, Leung Kau-Kui, Ho Tim, and Lee Quo-wei.
