Multi-Functional Shaking Table Laboratory

1. Overview
   Multi-functional shaking table laboratory in Chongqing University was founded in 2015 (sponsored by the 985-project program, Ministry of Education in China). It has one of the largest shaking tables in China, with the total floor area of 3,600 m2, including 1,200 m2 testing area. The testing hall contains shaking table testing area and normal structure testing area.
   The laboratory is equipped by shaking table system, normal structure testing system, data acquisition system and other testing facilities.

           
    2. Laboratory specialties
   Dimensions of the testing hall are 21.9 m height, 42 m length and 30 m width. It is one of the highest structural laboratories in China, in which high-rise building models and industrial facilities can be tested.
   The shaking table system is provided by MTS Systems Corporation in US. It is one of the best shaking tables in China in terms of table dimensions, specimen mass and peak overturning moment capacity.
   Besides reaction walls, several movable steel reaction frames are equipped for spatial loaded shaking table tests on complex structures by hybrid simulation method linking numerical analysis, shaking table and actuators together.

3. Multi-functional shaking table system
   The shaking table system is a device for shaking building structural models, geotechnical models and industrial installations with a wide range of simulated ground motions, including reproductions of recorded earthquakes time-histories to test their response characteristics and failure mechanisms subjected to earthquakes. The system in Chongqing is suitable for shaking table tests, pseudo-dynamic tests and hybrid simulations. The technical parameters of the shaking table system are shown in table 1.

    4. Objective
