Road and bridge engineering is a characteristic developing discipline subordinate to civil engineering discipline of Chongqing University and provides education on masters of science in engineering, masters of engineering, doctors of philosophy in engineering, and doctors of engineering in bridge and tunnel engineering, road engineering, and transportation engineering.
Institute of Road and Bridge Engineering (IRBE) aims to educate high-quality professionals in road and bridge engineering and research on management, inspection, design, construction, and maintenance of road and bridge engineering. The research fields of IRBE have expanded from the industrialization and modernization of transportation infrastructure construction to the direction of design and construction of high-performance in transportation infrastructure, disaster prevention, mitigation and durability of structures, and intelligent and green infrastructure operation and maintenance. Corresponding disciplines were integrated, including material science, environment and ecology, automation, computer science, traffic engineering, aerodynamics, and ocean engineering. Characteristic disciplines include multi-hazard dynamic disaster of large span bridges, basic theory and application of high-performance bridge materials and new combination structure bridges, intelligent diagnosis and treatment approach and critical technology of bridge structure, mountainous road foundation engineering and disaster prevention & control, green construction, and intelligent infrastructure management & maintenance.
IRBE achieved significant innovative achievements applied in many large-scale bridge and highway transportation infrastructure projects, including Hangzhou Bay Bridge, Qingdao Bay Bridge, Cuntan Yangtze River Bridge, Xiazhang bridge, over 6000km of highway pavement projects in Sichuan and Chongqing, and road management and maintenance in the East and West of China, producing remarkable economic and social benefits. IRBE was granted national, provincial and ministerial awards.
The full-time faculty of IRBE consists of 9 professors, 1 researcher, 6 associate professors and 4 lecturers. In recent years, the faculty of IRBE was granted over 30 national and provincial awards and funded by 30+ NSFC projects, 100+ provincial, ministerial scientific research projects and major engineering projects, published 100+ high-quality research papers and patents annually. IRBE is strategically cooperating with leading enterprises and making important contributions to the development of science, technology, industry, and education in China.
