At the invitation of Prof. Wengang Zhang from the School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing University, Teacher Du Yumin from Institute of Cultural and Heritage of Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) presented a wonderful academic lecture at Tencent Meeting on March 25, 2022, which was themed on the defense system of the Qinghai Ming Great Wall (the Great Wall built in Ming Dynasty in Qinghai Province) and the vulnerability assessment of typical ruins.

Combining his own practical experience and the research results, linking theory with practice, Du Yumin proposed the concepts of “Earth Ruins” (the ruins that use earth as the main building material) and “Qinghai Ming Great Wall Ruins”, and introduced the historical evolution, protection overview, value assessment and preservation scale, military defense system and other contents of Ming Great Wall Qinghai in the lecture. He also explained five typical disease types of the Qinghai Ming Great Wall based on the field photos. In order to study the disease-related characteristics, 9 sites were selected for field sampling and indoor experiments, and the disease correlation, disease influencing factors, disease development and evolution laws were studied. Therefore, Then, the vulnerability of Qinghai Ming Great Wall was evaluated and studied.

Learning from the lecture, the teachers and students pf SCE knew more about the relevant research on the Qinghai Ming Great Wall, further broadening their academic horizons.
