On October 27th, Soft Science released the “2023 ShanghaiRangking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects”. The participants in this ranking are more than 5000 universities worldwide, with over 1900 universities from 104 countries and regions ultimately appearing on the rankings of various disciplines. In the ranking of civil engineering discipline, there are a total of 300 universities worldwide, with Chongqing University ranking seventh and entering the top ten for the first time.

The “ShanghaiRangking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects” uses a series of internationally comparable objective academic indicators to measure the performance of global universities in related disciplines, including international authoritative awards, top achievements in disciplines, high-level research output, research quality, international cooperation, etc. The ranking of world-class disciplines in soft science adopts 36 authoritative academic awards obtained from the Academic Excellence Survey, 121 top journals in the discipline，and 31 top academic conferences in computer science and engineering as important dimensions for measuring academic performance of universities. The "Academic Excellence Survey" targets deans, department heads, team leaders, and full professors of top 100 universities worldwide, namely top scholars in various disciplines.

On November 8th, Soft Science released the "2023 Ranking of the Best Discipline in China". 169 domestic universities participated in the civil engineering discipline ranking, with Chongqing University ranking fourth in the civil engineering discipline, creating another excellent achievement.

The indicator system of  "Ranking of the Best Disciplines in China" consists of five categories: talent cultivation, platform projects, achievement awards, academic papers, and top-level talents. It consists of 18 indicators, including more than 70 measurement variables.
