An academic report by Prof. Limin Zhang from HKUST

On 31 Julyat Prof. Wengang Zhang’s invitation, Prof. Limin Zhang from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) gave a wonderful academic presentation in School of Civil Engineering in Chongqing University. A total of approximately fifty audiences attended. The Theme of this presentation was Digital twin empowered landslide and flood risk management. And the presentation was chaired by Prof. Wengang Zhang.

During the presentation, the basic concept of digital twins was firstly introduced, followed by building a city-scale digital twin, space-aerial-terrstrial sensing, simulation engines, risk management and decision module, etc. Then, the basic problems of levee risk analysis and emergency management were pointed out. Finally, Prof. Limin Zhang had a deep discussion with the attended teachers and students.

Prof. Limin Zhang is Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Director of Digital Cities and Smart Hazard Mitigation Laboratory at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research interests include slopes, dams, foundations, and geotechnical risk assessment and management. He is the Chair of ISSMGE TC210 on Embankment Dams, Past Chair of ASCE Geo-Institute’s Risk Assessment and Management Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Georisk, Associate Editor of ASCE’s Journal Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, and editorial board member of Engineering Geology, Computers and Geotechnics, etc. He is recipient of ASCE Ralph Peck Award, Chinese National Engineering Award, ISSMGE’S Lacasse Lecture Award and GEOSNet’s Wilson Tang Lecture Award.
