On October 13, 2025, at the invitation of the President’s Office of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), professor Li Yutong and professor Li Xiao from the School of Civil Engineering at Chongqing University visited USM for in-depth exchanges on topics such as scientific research cooperation, academic exchanges, and talent cultivation. USM is a member of the “the Belt and Road” University Science and Technology Cooperation Alliance (iUNRC) sponsored by Chongqing University. In 2025, QS World University ranked 146th. The main representatives attending and receiving USM this time include professor Habibah Wahab, vice president of research and innovation, professor Mohd Zamir Pakhuruddin, director of the Institute of Nanophotonics Research and Technology (INOR), professor Fadzli Nazri, dean of the school of civil engineering, professor Nuridah Sabtu, director of graduate programs, and many other university leaders and research team members.

In communication, the two sides discussed the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoU), the construction of professional double degree training projects such as intelligent construction, the joint construction of the “the Belt and Road” joint laboratory for disaster prevention and reduction, the exchange of visits between teachers and students, the joint application of scientific research projects, technology transfer and other matters, and reached a number of common understandings.
During this period, Li Xiao introduced the discipline construction, scientific research achievements, and future development directions of the School of Civil Engineering at Chongqing University. He also presented the important achievements of the team in the fields of wind resistance and disaster reduction, such as wind resistant design of building structures and analysis of urban wind disaster mechanisms. Li Yutong shared the latest research progress of Chongqing University’s wind engineering team in the field of sustainable urban microclimate and intelligent construction.




Both parties stated that this visit has laid a solid foundation for long-term cooperation between the two universities in the fields of scientific research, education, and innovation. Next, the two universities will continue to cooperate in areas such as wind resistance and disaster reduction, urban resilience, sustainable development, and intelligent construction, promoting academic exchanges and talent cultivation between Chinese and Malaysian universities.
