Wind-wave-current Multifunctional Laboratory

Nov21-2025

LABORATORY OVERVIEW

Wind-Wave-Current Multifunctional Laboratory is the first large-scale boundary layer wind tunnel facility inChina capable of simultaneously simulating the coupling effects of multiple hazards, including strong winds, waves, ocean currents, tornadoes, and downbursts. This advanced laboratory enables experimental researchon long-span bridges, buildings, offhore wind turbines, wind environments, and wind-wave-current couplingeffects.

Vertical Closed-circuit Wind Tunnel

● Low-speed section dimerstons: 8m (width) x 4m (height), maximum wind speed 18m/s;High-speed section dimensions: 4m (width) x 3m (height), maximum wind speed 48m/s.

Wave-Current Flume

Dimensions: 31m(length)x4m(width)x3m(depth), maximum wave-making water depth 2.2m, maximum wave height 0.6m, maximum flow velocity 0.7m/s, capable of simulating regular and irregular waves, equipped with movable floor and scour sediment tank

Localized strong wind simulator

The tornado and downburst simulators can operate independently outside the wind tunnel. The outlet-to-test platform distance is adjustable from 0.1m to 0.6m. They can be moved into the low-speed test section via a rail system to simulate localized strong winds, considering the effect of boundary layer turbulence.
