On 24 September, 2021, the online meeting of CSC joint PhD program was held by School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University. Dong Xiaofan, deputy chief of Program Section, Office of International Affairs, Huang He, project supervisor of Program Section, Office of International Affairs, and excellent PhD representatives showed up.

Zhang Wengang, Associate Chair of School of Civil Engineering praised this meeting and hoped more Master and PhD students could seize opportunities presented by this era and improve themselves by expanding horizon in a broader world especially with the country’s focus on high-tech talents and SCE’s support for exchange and training.

Ms Dong explained the application of foreign programs, including policy of CSC, a brief introduction of CSC and National construction of high-level university public graduate project and relevant suggestions.

When talking about policy of studying abroad, she said China has followed the guideline of support for studying abroad, encouragement of returning, free mobility and making contribution with the principles of opening, fairness and justice in choosing excellent PhD students for oversea study. For National construction of high-level university public graduate project which students were interested in, Ms. Dong made clear the size, duration and principles and shared the admissions data in the last 5 years. Through these data, students knew Chongqing University has attached greater importance to oversea study and the Covid-19 produced little impact on students’ aspiration for studying abroad.

Then she answered some questions about applying programs and stressed all students who intended to apply must complete personal information via CQU’s system. In the end, she gave students some valuable suggestions, such as having a good command of English and so on.

Mr. Huang added some other important message. He told students to notice the deadline of uploading materials and form of materials via the website of CSC. He also reminded that compared with National Senior Researchers Program, Visiting Scholars Program and Postdoctoral Program, National construction of high-level university public graduate project was different in the number of admissions and competitiveness.

After that, some confusing questions were handled by the two teachers.

Four participants of CSC joint PhD program shared their experiences. Chen Fuyong, admitted by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover illuminated the application procedures and gave useful ways to solve problems in the process. Chen Longlong studying in Politecnico di Milano, Wang Shan in Nanyang Technological University and Cao xinyun in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory shared steps of application, recognition of English scores and their lives in foreign countries respectively.
