On January 6, 2026, at the invitation of Chair Yang Qingshan and Professor Li Xiao of the School of Civil Engineering at Chongqing University, the delegation from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah visited Chongqing University. The delegation was led by Professor Yatimah binti Alias, Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, and included Professor Noram Irwan bin Ramli, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology; Mohd Ferdaus bin Musa, Special Officer to the Vice-Chancellor; and Shahrizai bin Sarif, Administrative Head of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology.
Professor Liu Guiwen, Vice President of Chongqing University, attended the welcoming ceremony and extended a warm welcome to the visiting UMPSA delegation. Prof. Liu Guiwen expressed the hope that the visit would serve as an opportunity to further expand practical cooperation between the two universities in teaching and research, while promoting deeper exchanges and collaboration.

Professor Yang Bo, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange at Chongqing University, Professor Yang Qingshan, Chair of the School of Civil Engineering; and Professor Wang Yuhang, Associate Chair of the School of Civil Engineering, attended the cooperation and exchange symposium. On behalf of the university, Prof. Yang Bo delivered a welcome address and provided an overview of Chongqing University’s progress under the “Double First-Class” initiative, as well as its international cooperation and exchange efforts. Prof. Yang Qingshan introduced the development history, core strengths, and research priorities of the civil engineering discipline at Chongqing University.
Professor Yatimah binti Alias outlined UMPSA’s educational characteristics , disciplinary structure, and key areas of development, and expressed the university’s intention to deepen cooperation in areas such as joint training programs (including dual-degree programs) and disaster prevention and mitigation research. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics including joint talent cultivation and collaborative research projects, and reached a consensus on cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research collaboration, and the joint establishment of a Belt and Road Joint Laboratory.

During the visit, the UMPSA delegation toured the State Key Laboratory of Safety and Resilience of Civil Engineering in Mountainous Areas. Delegation members highly praised the laboratory’s academic achievements, research platform development, and experimental facilities. They noted that the exchange and laboratory visit had significantly deepened their understanding of the School of Civil Engineering’s research capabilities, international collaboration framework, and talent cultivation system at Chongqing University, and expressed strong confidence in future cooperation in scientific research and joint postgraduate training between the two institutions.

This visit has laid a foundation for cooperation between Chongqing University and UMPSA, and has injected new momentum into deeper and broader international collaboration between the two universities under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
