The Institute of Engineering Construction currently has 22 faculty members, including 6 professors, 5 associate professors, and 11 lecturers. Serving the national development needs of new infrastructure and smart cities, the Institute takes civil engineering as its core discipline and integrates interdisciplinary strengths from computer science and technology, mechanical engineering, management science and engineering, and other related fields. Its research focuses primarily on intelligent engineering design, intelligent manufacturing and construction in civil engineering, and intelligent operation and maintenance of infrastructure. The Institute conducts systematic research on the fundamental theories and key technologies of intelligent construction in civil engineering, thereby supporting the high-quality development of China's construction industry.
Closely aligned with the needs of major national engineering projects, the Institute has led and participated in a series of construction technology research programs and project management consulting assignments for major and key engineering projects. These include several sub-projects under major national programs during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, key projects of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and provincial-level research projects. Through these efforts, the Institute has addressed numerous critical construction technology and management challenges in major engineering projects. It has received 3 national science and technology awards and more than 40 provincial, ministerial-level, and industry-association research awards. Focusing on disciplinary and industrial frontiers, the Institute has strengthened its disciplinary foundation while promoting interdisciplinary integration. It has gradually developed distinctive advantages in research and consulting related to engineering construction technology, organization, and management, making significant contributions to regional economic development and major engineering construction. Faculty members of the Institute have served as chief editors or contributors to more than ten textbooks, including national planned textbooks and national excellent textbooks, and have participated in the preparation of national standards, industry standards, and local standards.
Faculty members of the Institute have participated in technical research and problem-solving for numerous landmark buildings and infrastructure projects in various provinces and municipalities, including Chongqing West Railway Station, Chongqing East Railway Station, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport Terminal 3, Chongqing Raffles City, Chongqing International Expo Center, Chongqing Guotai Arts Center, Chongqing Cuntan Yangtze River Bridge, Chongqing Zhonghua New City, Chongqing International Finance Center, Chengdu Raffles City, Chengdu Museum, Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center, Dongguan Yulan Grand Theatre, Wuhan Railway Station, Guangzhou West Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and the joint workshop of Changsha Cigarette Factory. Through these projects, the Institute has accumulated extensive experience in complex technologies related to infrastructure and engineering construction. At present, the Institute of Engineering Construction has reached a leading level in China in scientific research, technical research for major engineering construction, talent cultivation, and discipline development.
