The Institute of Bridge Engineering

May12-2026

The Institute of Bridge Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University, is led by Academicians Zhou Xuhong and Yang Yongbin and comprises 23 faculty members, including 8 professors and 13 associate professors/research fellows. Three faculty members have been recognized with national-level talent awards such as the “Ten Thousand Talents Program” and the “Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talent Project,” and two have received national-level young talent honors.

The institute’s research spans the entire lifecycle of bridge engineering, including analysis of static and dynamic performance, seismic and wind resistance of bridge structures, theoretical design calculations, construction control techniques, as well as inspection, monitoring, and maintenance. Its distinctive research focuses on high-performance bridge materials and structural systems, dynamic analysis and intelligent operation of bridge structures, and dynamic hazards and safety prevention in bridges.

In recent years, the institute’s research outcomes have been applied in major national and regional projects that have set world-span records, including the Guangdong Shiziyang Bridge, Jinwen Road River-Crossing Channel, and Guanyinsi Yangtze River Bridge. These achievements have strongly supported national strategies such as the construction of a “Strong Transportation Nation” and the “Belt and Road Initiative.” The institute has received more than 30 national and provincial-level scientific and technological awards, undertaken over 30 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and completed more than 100 provincial-level research and major engineering projects, with an annual output of over 150 high-quality research papers and patents.

Building on China’s transportation development needs, the Institute of Bridge Engineering strives to strengthen its capabilities in scientific innovation and sustainable development, aiming to become a leading domestic and internationally recognized research team and to make greater contributions to the advancement of bridge engineering in China.
