The Institute of Road Engineering

The Institute of Road Engineering (IRE), affiliated with the School of Civil Engineering at Chongqing University, currently comprises 11 faculty members, including 4 professors, 4 associate professors, 1 lecturer, and 2 assistant researchers. Among its faculty are 1 Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 Chair Professor under the Ministry of Education’s Cheung Kong Scholars Program, 1 recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 1 Bayu Scholar. The institute is also home to several prestigious national-level academic teams, including the National Huang Danian-style Teaching Team and the Ministry of Education Cheung Kong Scholars Innovation Team.

In recent years, the institute has received numerous awards and honors, including 1 Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 8 First Prizes of provincial- and ministerial-level Natural Science Awards and Science and Technology Progress Awards, as well as more than 10 Second Prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels. The institute’s research and technological services mainly focus on the following areas: subgrade and pavement design theory and green intelligent construction technologies; information management, intelligent operation, and maintenance of transportation infrastructure; high-performance subgrade and pavement materials, as well as survey and design technologies. Over the past five years, the institute has led or participated in more than 20 national-level research projects and programs, including key R&D programs funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and international cooperation projects sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The institute has established strong collaborative relationships with many renowned research institutions and enterprises in Hong Kong, Singapore, and other regions. It has made significant contributions to the cultivation of high-level talent, national infrastructure development, and China’s economic growth.
